Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Use an electric guitar with the sound distortion and loudness buttons built right in to the body of the guitar. You can begin a slow intro in a song and change the tone while you are still playing if the knobs are within reach.
Step2
Add a foot pedal to get the great old wah-wah sound so many rock and roll tunes have in them. The foot pedal will plug into your amplifier and is another way to vary the tone without interrupting your playing.
Step3
Replace the pick-up on your electric guitar with one that is more suited to rock and roll. Find out what kind of pick-up your favorite rocker used and buy a duplicate or a replica to get the same kind of tone. You may not be able to play as fast or well as a rock star, but you can mimic the tone with the right kind of equipment.
Step4
Experiment with your amplifier and where you sit in relation to it. Feedback and acoustics play a big part in developing a rockin' sound. Old and new amps provide different sounds too, so take some time to play with the volumes and the equalizers until you hear the kinds of tones you desire.
