A bicycle's storage space is limited. Installing a rear rack to your bike can add storage space where you need it. You can secure items behind the seat instead of them weighing you down on your back or blocking your view with a front basket.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

    Standard Rack With Lower Supports

  1. Step 1

Insert the rack's lower bolts where the rear wheel is connected. These may need to be screwed onto threaded inserts on the frame for support. Or you might place them on the wheel bolt between the gears and the nut.

  2. Step 2

Attach the top bolts on the frame close to the seat rod. Extend the rods out to the frame and screw in the bolts where you can. This could be on the bars right above the rear wheel or directly below the seat.

  3. Step 3

Push the rack from behind until it is level (or parallel) with the ground. Then tighten the bolts that hold the top rods to the front of the rack.

  4. Beam Rack - No Lower Supports

  5. Step 1

Disconnect the seat and its support rod from the bicycle. Loosen the clamp that holds it in place and slide it out of the channel.

  6. Step 2

Slide the seat rod through the rack's channel in the front. You should slide it up close to the seat at the start.

  7. Step 3

Replace the seat and rod onto the bicycle. Then adjust the rack's position until it is at a comfortable spot.

  8. Step 4

Tighten the clamps for both the seat and the rack. Make sure they are both secure and won't sway during riding.
