When you go camping, having a place out of the weather can make all the difference in your outdoor experience. While a tent provides the shelter you require to have a good time, you must make sure you know how to properly raise that tent so as not to cause damage to the gear.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Piece the tent poles together so that they are completely assembled and firmly connected. A tent pole that isn't secure can come loose and puncture the tent.

  2. Step 2

Slide the tent pole through the proper guides. In the case of a small dome tent, this will mean laying 2 long poles crosswise on the top of the tent, forming a "X."

  3. Step 3

Insert the ends of the tent poles into the reinforced pockets at the corners of the tent. This is necessary to make sure the tent poles stay in place.

  4. Step 4

Gently bend the tent poles into an arch so that the tent begins to raise to its proper dimensions. Be sure not to apply too much stress or the fabric can tear, ruining your camping trip early.

  5. Step 5

Stake down the open loops once your tent is fully raised. The tent stakes are essential, especially in rougher winds that might otherwise blow the tent away.

  6. Step 6

Attach the fly covering to the tent if this is an option. Many tents have a separate piece for the roof that doubles over a screened roof that can be used alone in warmer and drier weather.
