Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Turn off the water if you are working on a plumbing project.

  2. Step 2

Cut out the section of pipe to be replaced with a hack saw. It's generally recommended that you remove at least 6 inches past any remnants of the area needing repair to make sure you get rid of all the damage.

  3. Step 3

Choose another section of PVC pipe that's equally thick as the pipe you're repairing. This pipe should be slightly shorter than the section you're replacing so it can be attached with couplings.

  4. Step 4

Coat the inside of a coupling with sealant and slide it onto the end of your new PVC pipe. Repeat this on the other end. Make sure you leave at least half of the coupling off the end of the pipe so you can secure it to the existing pipe.

  5. Step 5

Add sealant to the edges of the existing pipe and secure the new section in place. Make sure the sealant and the coupling cover the joints completely to prevent leaking.

  6. Step 6

Allow your sealant to dry according to manufacturer's directions prior to turning the water back on.
