Step 1
Set up the trick. This is a good trick to perform at dinner settings because you'll be able to position the napkin that you've been using throughout the meal conveniently on your lap. If you have to grab something like that right before the trick, you'll give it away. Have the napkin across your lap so the coin won't fall between your legs and hit the floor. Explain that you're going to pass the coin through the table to get everyone's attention.
-
Step 2
Put the coin on the table. Put your first 3 fingers on top of the coin so that it can't be seen. Slide the coin around the table. Set your face in concentration as you pretend to summon your magic.
-
Step 3
Drop the coin off the table and into the napkin in your lap. Do this effortlessly as you slide the coin around the table. Pretend that the coin is still under your fingers and continue sliding them around the table.
-
Step 4
Tell your friends that you can feel the magic building so you are going to put your free hand under the table to catch it. Put your hand under the table, avoiding your lap. It's too obvious to just pick up the coin in your lap. Instead push your hand well under the table so the hand would be just beneath the center where you are going to drop the coin through. Keep your bicep pressed against the edge of the table so it looked as though your arm never moved. Under the table, it's easy to move your hand back around and grab the coin from your lap.
-
Step 5
Tap the table with the coin. With your fingers supposedly curled around the coin above the table, make a motion of tapping the coin on the table. In reality, you will tap the coin on the table from below. It will make an effective noise, conveying that the coin was just there, then instantly open your hands so it appears the coin has vanished.
-
Step 6
Pretend to catch the coin from below and bring it up to show everybody.
