Pottery can be a fabulous hobby to get into and clay is used to make a variety of household items, statues and displays. Many people take up the arty of pottery because it relaxes them and allows them to explore their creative spirit. Before you begin making the pottery, you must prep the clay and get yourself ready. Here is how you can prep clay for pottery making.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Clay
  • Water
  1. Step 1

Begin your prepping by cutting some clay off of the bigger piece with a wire. Make sure you have just enough for the object you are planning on making.

  2. Step 2

Wedge your clay. Prep the clay by kneading it and making sure all the air bubbles are gone. Roll it and knead the clay on a hard surface to help you get all the air bubbles out of the clay. Make sure you knead it for a few minutes to ensure smoothness.

  3. Step 3

Add water to your clay if needed. This liquid will help you knead the clay and the procedure will be easier on your hands. Clay can get tough when left in storage for a long time.

  4. Step 4

Weigh the clay according to the object you will want to make. For example, if you are making a set of bowls, then you would make sure each piece of clay that you have prepped, weighs the same as the next.

  5. Step 5

Remember that no two pottery pieces will ever be the same because you have made them with your own hands and have put your own creativity into each pottery piece.
