How to Make a Straight Cut Shot in Pool

Pool players use a multitude of shots. Two of the more devilish shots are the deceptively simple straight-in shot and the cut shot. The straight shot is encountered often and can lead to a player sinking the cue ball and scratching.

Instructions

    • 1

Line up the shot. The cue tip should be placed rather low on the cue ball and not be too far to one side or the other.

    • 2

Size up the cut shot. The target ball is to one side of the pocket and the cue ball must drive the ball into the pocket by colliding with the correct side of the target.

    • 3

Pull back on the cue and shoot firmly. Be sure to follow through on the shot.

    • 4

Aim directly at the number on the target ball. Having a spot on the ball to aim for increases the chances for success. After the shot the cue ball should reflect off the ball and roll to one side.

    • 5

Cut the target ball directly into the pocket. The cue ball should be left in the optimum spot for the next shot.
