Rotation is one of the foundation games of pool. Rotation gave rise to several variations of the game. Playing Rotation is how most players learn the game of pool. The game play rotates between increasing valued balls until all the balls are sunk and the total points are tallied.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Rack the balls in any order. Make certain the balls are racked tightly. In some variations of the game, the placement of certain balls, such as the 15 ball, is specified, but in a friendly game of Rotation, this isn't necessary.

  2. Step 2

Break the balls. The player gets the point value of any ball sunk during the break. The points are determined by the number on the ball.

  3. Step 3

Sink the balls in order. The lowest ball on the table must be the goal of each player's turn. The lowest numbered ball does not have to go into the pocket, but it must be hit first. The player is awarded the point value of any ball that goes in after the lowest point ball is hit.

  4. Step 4

Place the cue ball, and any balls that went in, back on the table if a player scratches. Don't deduct any points for the scratch.
