How to Make a Pool Cue Bridge

In pool, control is essential for an accurate shot. Accuracy is partly of where and how you rest your cue during your shot. Your weak hand will be the bridge on which your pool cue slides back and forth during your shot. If you can make a solid bridge, you'll shoot better and improve your pool game.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Place the fingertips of your weak hand on the table. Spread them out to create a wide, solid base for your bridge.

  2. Step 2

Tuck your thumb next to the knuckle of your forefinger, and bend the tip up your thumb upward. This will make a wedge-like crease between your thumb and finger. Alternatively, you can form a circle with you thumb and forefinger, much like giving the "OK" signal.

  3. Step 3

Grab the base of the pool cue with your strong hand and rest the tip of the cue between your thumb and forefinger. Leave enough room between your bridge and the cue ball, as you want room for the cue to slide back and forth.

  4. Step 4

Slide the cue back and forth along your hand during your shot. Keep your hand still for better control. Your shooting arm should swing from your elbow while your upper-arm and shoulder remain still.

Tips & Warnings
  • Apply a small amount of billiards chalk or talcum powder to your bridge so that your cue slides along your hand more easily.
