Pipe cleaners are easy to shape into a little duck. This mess-free craft project is perfect for young children. Use white pipe cleaners to make a coiled body and wings, and an orange pipe cleaner to make the beak and legs.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 12-inch white pipe cleaners
  • 1 12-inch orange pipe cleaner
  • Pencil
  • Google eyes
  • Craft glue
  1. Step 1

Wrap 1 white pipe cleaner completely around a pencil to form a tight coil for the body, then slide the pencil out. Loosen the coil slightly to give the body a more natural shape.

  2. Step 2

Fold the orange pipe cleaner in half then bend 1/2 inch of the folded end to make the beak.

  3. Step 3

Slide the orange pipe cleaner through the center of the white body coil, starting 2 coils down from the top. Leave the beak sticking out between the second and third coil. The ends of the orange pipe cleaner should be sticking out the bottom of the coiled body.

  4. Step 4

Form the feet on each end of the orange pipe cleaner by bending it up 1/3 from the end and twisting to make a loop. Bend the loops forward and shape into feet.

  5. Step 5

Bend the ends of the other white pipe cleaner toward the middle to make 2 large loops; these will be the wings. Shape the 2 loops into duck wings. Attach the wings to the back of the duck and twist to hold them in place.

  6. Step 6

Add google eyes to the head using craft glue. Google eyes can be found at most craft and hobby stores.

Tips & Warnings
  • Change the color scheme to make a penguin, chicken or other bird.
  • The tip of pipe cleaners can be sharp from the exposed wire ends. To prevent injury to little fingers, bend the exposed wire with a wire cutter or scissors.
