Paragliding is a skill that takes time to learn and requires good attention to detail. As you begin the ascent and launch, your wing is up. You are scooted back into a sitting position when the paraglider pulls the harness upward. You must learn how to adjust your sitting position after you have launched.

Things You'll Need:

  • Pagaglider
  • Harness
  • Protective helmet
  1. Step 1

Check all of the harness straps for proper tension prior to launch. Practice before taking off to be sure you know how to put yourself into the seat of the harness.

  2. Step 2

Run to begin your ascent. Lean back and sit down, as in a chair, when you leave the ground. After beginning the launch, pull up your knees further. Move back into the seat automatically, as the paragliding machine takes off. Angle your body back while pulling your knees up.

  3. Step 3

Relax your hands as you hold the brakes on each side. Make sure you maintain control of the brakes at all times after launch. Move in a "wiggle" or "squirm" fashion to inch yourself into the correct seat position.

  4. Step 4

Hold both of the brakes together in front of you, in one hand. This allows you to use your other hand to help position yourself. Move into place by holding onto the harness with your free hand.

  5. Step 5

Continue holding the brakes, but press your thumbs onto the straps. This allows just a little movement in the paragliding harness and should help to situate you in the seat after takeoff.
