Things You'll Need:
- Sandpaper
- Bucket
- Rag or Sponge
-
Step 1
Buy 1,000-grit sandpaper for the job.
-
Step 2
Move the bumper to a sturdy table, or set it up on two sawhorses.
-
Step 3
Choose the wet-sanding technique over dry sanding. You'll end up with a cleaner end result, and you will avoid releasing harmful particles into the air from the primer coat.
-
Step 4
Soak a clean towel and the sandpaper in a bucket of soapy water. For a successful sanding job, keep dunking your towel into the water and drenching the area of the bumper you're sanding. The continuous flow of water helps remove the sanded grit from the bumper's surface, giving you a cleaner end result.
-
Step 5
Keep your sandpaper moving constantly, using short strokes. Make sure you sand every area of the bumper.

on 3/21/2009 As a small Michigan business owner, I like to stick to the local guys for supplies when necessary. For years, I have been getting my abrasive belts, wheels and supplies from Econaway Abrasives. They have information on their website with full pricing and order forms. I believe the URL is http://www.econaway.com. They are in West Michigan, and provide a full spectrum of abrasive supplies for residential or industrial needs.
