9-Ball is one of the more popular variations of pool. The game is played with the numbered balls 1 to 9. 9-Ball takes more skill than some games of pool, as the balls must be sunk in order from the lowest numbered ball until the final ball.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start the game of 9-Ball by racking up the balls in the characteristic diamond shape pattern. Put the 9 ball into the center of the rack. Tap it once or twice with a cue ball to give it a nice tight seat.

  2. Step 2

Put the 1 ball at the front of the rack. The 1 ball should be placed firmly against the other balls in the rack.

  3. Step 3

Place the other balls around the 9 ball. The diamond-shaped rack should be packed tightly in no particular order.

  4. Step 4

Move to the head of the table and place the cue ball behind the head string. The head string is the area directly behind the second diamond on the pool table. Imagine there is string stretching across the table from the second diamond on each side. This area of the pool table is called the kitchen.

  5. Step 5

Position the cue ball anywhere in the kitchen at the head of the pool table. The starting location of the cue ball is up to the individual player.

  6. Step 6

Hit the 1 ball first to break in 9-Ball.
