For a charming Christmas decoration that is ideal for gift giving, consider making a nativity pretzel wreath. Pretzels are inexpensive and easy to work with. Once you learn the secrets of making a pretzel wreath base, you can make all kinds of pretzel wreaths for every holiday and special occasion.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Small pretzels
  • Craft glue
  • String
  • Polyurethane or shellac

    Pretzel Wreath Base

  1. Step 1

Arrange 7 small pretzels, salt side down, in a circle with their sides touching. You can use more pretzels to make a bigger wreath, but 7 is a good beginning number.

  2. Step 2

Apply plain white craft glue to the sides (joints) of the pretzels.

  3. Step 3

Add glue to the backs of seven more pretzels. Place each pretzel on the existing base, salt side up. Over lap the top pretzels with the bottom pretzels.

  4. Step 4

Secure the layers with more craft glue on the joints. Let dry completely.

  5. Step 5

Seal the wreath by tying a piece of string around the top of the wreath and dipping it in a bucket of polyurethane or shellac. Let dry overnight before decorating.

  6. Decorating the Pretzel Wreath

  7. Step 1

Purchase miniature nativity scene figures at a craft store or Christmas shop.

  8. Step 2

Weave a length of ribbon through the pretzel. Trim off any access and hold in place with a dab of hot glue on the back.

  9. Step 3

Place the nativity figures on the wreath using hot glue.

  10. Step 4

Add a pretty bow with wire ties or hot glue at the bottom of the wreath.

  11. Step 5

Glue a loop of ribbon on the back for a hanger.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't try to use hot glue on a pretzel wreath that has not been sealed. Once the wreath has been dipped in polyurethane or shellac, you can use hot glue to add decorations.
