There is nothing more frustrating than having to clean a pile of dirty dishes after a good meal. Thank heavens someone invented the dishwasher! Knowing the proper way of using the dishwasher can maximize the effectiveness of this essential appliance and keep your dishes and eating utensils sparkling clean.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use the brand of dish detergent that works for your dishwasher. Do not use anything that is not recommended in your user's manual, as it may not clean your dishes as well or cause problems for your dishwasher.

  2. Step 2

Open your dishwasher and locate where the main sprayers are situated. This will give you an idea where to best place your dirty dishes.

  3. Step 3

Slide out the top rack of your dishwasher and put your utensils and cups face down. Do not overcrowd the space and stack dishes or cups on top of each other. This will result in dishes that are not fully clean.

  4. Step 4

Pull out the bottom rack of the dishwasher and load your plates, bowls and other dishes with the eating surfaces facing the sprayer. Be sure to maximize the space and at the same time not overcrowd.

  5. Step 5

Put all forks and knives facing down towards the basket located at the bottom rack of your dishwasher for safety purposes. It can be dangerous if little children are around the dishwasher and get their hands on forks or knives that are sticking up toward them.

  6. Step 6

Wash small items such as chopsticks, straws or lids by hand. These items tend to fall off the rack easily, especially if the sprayers are strong, and these objects may burn on the heating coil situated on the bottom of the dishwasher.

  7. Step 7

Push both racks back in the dishwasher, close it and set the timer and settings per the instruction manual. Turn on the switch and wait for your sparkling dishes to emerge!
