Those sultry lingerie models in magazines and those glamorous actresses gliding down the red carpet wear the sexy smoky-eye look very well. It's simple to get this look with a few tools and some eye shadow and eyeliner. You can get the same look when you learn how to apply smoky eyeliner.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Use a kohl eyeliner pencil and lightly apply it on the bottom water line of the eye. The eyeliner on the lower lid will transfer to the upper lid as you blink.

  2. Step 2

Apply color over the eyeliner by smudging it. An eggplant color is a good choice. Just make sure it's a dark color, such as black, plum or even a dark brown.

  3. Step 3

Dot eyeliner gently on the lids and blend with a back and forth motion with the pencil.

  4. Step 4

Put a small amount of eye shadow over the eyeliner you just applied to the lid. This helps set the eyeliner pencil to reduce smudging.

  5. Step 5

Use your brush in an upward motion to smudge and soften the shadow. You don't want any harsh lines visible.

  6. Step 6

Place a small bit of eye shadow in the outside bottom corner of the eye. Smudge it outward, but don't put the color inside your eye.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep the kohl pencil in your makeup bag so you can touch it up through the evening.
  • Rub some concealer over the eyelid before applying makeup. This will help set the shadow and reduce smudging.
