How to Pass Your Head Through an Index Card

Among office pranks and tricks, passing your head through an index card is one of the best. All you need is a standard-size index card and a pair of scissors to amaze your friends and colleagues. So if you're looking for a way to liven up your next board meeting, try this fun trick.

1. Set the scene. All good magic tricks start with a good setup, so take bets around the room to see who thinks that you can pass your head through an index card.

2. Fold an index card in half lengthwise.

3. Cut slits a quarter-inch apart on one side of the index card, getting close to the opposite edge but not going completely through. Then flip the card over and do the same thing on the other side, cutting between the slits that you created on the first pass.

4. Carefully open up your cuts. The cuts should fold open to reveal the folded center seam down the middle of the card.

5. Cut a slit in the middle of the card. Once you have the seam revealed, cut it down the middle, leaving one bit attached on each end. This should form a ring of paper.

6. Pull the index card ring down over your head. Proudly announce to your audience that you have successfully passed your head through an index card. Try to make people pay up when they see how the trick was done.
