Step 1
Study the certification credentials that the therapist provides. Some certifications only cover one part of the body, such as the abdomen, arms or legs. Confirm that the certification dates remain current.
-
Step 2
Inquire about the lymphatic massage training received by the therapist and why the therapist chose that particular school over another. Find out how many weeks or months the training lasted. They need more than a weekend training course.
-
Step 3
Ask the therapist for a list of indications and contraindications for lymph drainage therapy. A qualified massage therapist knows these by heart, without reading them from a brochure.
-
Step 4
Interview more than one lymphatic massage therapist. Experience a regular massage with each one before doing the lymph drainage.
-
Step 5
Obtain references from others who use the therapist's services. Contact them and openly ask any relevant questions. You can ask about the best part of their experiences and also what parts may not have worked for the person.
-
Step 6
Request a full treatment plan in writing, including number of visits and cost, before beginning treatment.
