Technology has completely changed the game when it comes to recording music. No longer are you limited to what a human drummer can or can't do in the recording studio. Now there are machines like Akai's MPC 2000xl, which allow you to load beats from all over the world. Here's how to load samples on the machine.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Akai MPC 2000xl Drum Machine
  • Zip drive
  1. Step 1

Insert your zip disk into the drive. This is found on the front left of the MPX 2000xl machine.

  2. Step 2

Press "shift" and "3" at the same time. This performs the load function on the machine. Your samples will pop up in no time.

  3. Step 3

Open the appropriate folder using the toggle mouse on the machine.

  4. Step 4

Hit "do it" on the MPC 2000xl machine. That's right: this machine is so cool, it has functions like "do it."

  5. Step 5

Assign your selected file to a pad on the machine. After you've clicked "do it" the machine will ask you which pad you would like to assign the sound to. Simply press the corresponding pad you prefer and hit "keep." If you press the wrong pad or change your mind, click "discard."

  6. Step 6

Play the loaded sample on the machine. Once loaded, this will take you back to the main menu. Now whenever you hit the corresponding pad, that sound will play. Repeat this loading process with all of your desired percussion sounds.

Tips & Warnings
  • Download samples from the net, save them onto a zip drive and then load those samples back onto your MPC 2000xl.
