Belly dancing is known for its seductive swaying movements. The Figure 8 is probably one of the most well known and recognized of the basic belly dancing moves. You can have fun and learn to do this with only a little practice.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start by bending your knees slightly. Stand straight and think about keeping your torso relatively still. Picture where the number 8 crosses over in the middle and pretend that the center of the 8 is where your belly button is.

  2. Step 2

Push your right hip forward and around to the side in a smooth, sliding motion. As you push out and around, pivot on your right foot, stepping back on your heel to help your hip swing around.

  3. Step 3

Cut across in a diagonal line from the back of your right hip and through the front of your left hip. Push out with your left hip and around, pivoting this time on the left foot with a little step back on your left heel.

  4. Step 4

Keep the figure 8 going by continuing the motion through the diagonal back to your right hip and swinging back to the right as you did in Step 2. Keep your torso elongated and your shoulder back and relaxed.

  5. Step 5

Add any arm movements you want to make the figure 8 more seductive and interesting. You may want to just raise your arms slightly or go ahead and use a flowing wave motion with your arms for effect.
