Lawnmowers need to be cleaned just as any other tool does. If you use it all year long and forget to clean it, the lawnmower will get rusty and lose its power. You also have to remove the spark plugs when they get overly dirty, but you must know where to look for the spark plugs. Learn how you can remove dirty spark plugs from a lawnmower.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ratchet
  • Clean spark plug
  • Different sized sockets
  1. Step 1

Start by taking a socket and remove the spark plug boot which is usually a twist off. Figure out which socket will fit the spark plug properly and then use your ratchet or wrench to untwist the dirty spark plug.

  2. Step 2

Remove the spark plug once it has been loosened. Inspect the spark plug for carbon deposits or to see if it is well and flooding. Also look for dirty oil and burnt oil.

  3. Step 3

Put in your new and clean spark plug. If your spark plug is not already pre-gapped, then look in your lawnmower's owner's manual to see what type of spark plug you need to install.

  4. Step 4

Tighten the spark plug into the lawnmower with the ratchet. Make sure it is tight and secure. Put on your spark plug boot and the lawnmower should be ready for action.

  5. Step 5

Test out your lawnmower with the new spark plug to see if it is working correctly. Give your mower a good boost and let it run for five minutes to make sure the spark plug works efficiently. Discard the old and dirty spark plug.
