Step 1
Turn your head at a slight angle (into the punch) while batting the punch away with your free hand. For a right jab, turn your head to the right as you bat the jab away with your left hand. For a left punch, reverse the technique.
-
Step 2
Lean your body to the right or left depending on where your opponent's punch is coming from. With the right timing, this technique should cause the punch to graze across your body harmlessly.
-
Step 3
Bring your left or right elbow up (depending on the punch) and block the punch. Duck your head slightly while raising your hand until your wrist is behind the ear. This shields your head (at the temples) while taking most of the force out of your opponent's punch.
-
Step 4
Move slightly forward while shifting your upper body to the right or left of the punch at a 45-degree angle. Using this "bobbing" technique in kickboxing makes it more difficult for your opponent to hit you with a follow up punch.
-
Step 5
Take a step to the left or right (at a 35- to 45-degree angle) from the punch. This allows you to slip the punch and counter your opponent from a different angle.
-
Step 6
Slip to the outside of the punch. This will make a counterattack less likely and place you in a better defensive position.

on 4/20/2008 I agree with everything up there. Another thing you can do, after alot of practice, is use ur rught elbow against his right fist. and turn it around if he is using his left. anyway, when u see that punch coming, let his fist run right into ur elbow. ur arm are up like Thai Fighter, so gettng ur elbows int to play will not be hard. right jab, lean back, expose the smallest part [and hardest part] of ur elbow. his fist will crackle upon impact. You have got to train this!! this is what Paul Vunak showed me.
