Jazz music has a full, mellow sound. Getting this tone out of an amp is crucial when playing the jazz guitar. The right amp settings completely change the sound of the music. Some amps are made with jazz music in mind like the Fender Twin, Fender Vibrolux and the Roland Jazz Chorus. Use other amps to achieve a nice jazz tone with a few adjustments.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Set up your guitar to play jazz music. Without the guitar setup, the amp does not function properly.

  2. Step 2

Turn the EQ controls to the middle position. The EQ settings are the treble, low and middle. Some amps use a 1 to 10 scale. If this is the case, set the controls to the 5 position.

  3. Step 3

Eliminate distortion by turning its setting to zero. All amps guitars and players are different. Some players like a little reverb, but for a crisp, clean jazz guitar tone, turn the distortion off.

  4. Step 4

Play a few bars and listen to the tone. Adjust the settings for your amp. Get creative and find the jazz tone that suits you and your equipment.

  5. Step 5

Write the settings down so you have them for future reference. If you play different styles or types of music, this is the best way to get a perfect sound every time.
