Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Select the right form of copper tubing and compression fittings for the job. It should be the right size to connect to the source (often about quarter-inch size but consult an expert first).
Step2
Turn the water off in the house. This should be done with a valve located near the water heater.
Step3
Slide the nut and compression fitting onto one end of the pipe. This connects the pipe to the water main. This can be screwed on by hand and then tightened with a wrench.
Step4
Install the saddle valve onto the sink or whatever appliance you are connecting the line to. Slide and route the tubing through the wall, floor or cabinet to the saddle valve.
Step5
Cut the excess copper tubing until it fits perfectly. You can also bend it into a loop, but make the turns as wide as you can. You must maintain the pipe's diameter to avoid water blockage.
Step6
Attach the pipe to the saddle valve with the valve's brass nut and sleeve. Tighten the fixtures with the wrench.
Step7
Turn the water back on and turn on the faucets. Flush the pipes out until the water is clear. Check the water line for leaks and tighten the fixtures accordingly.
