How to Frame Roof Valleys
An important step in roofing is to frame the roof valley correctly. A steel roof has the same valley composition as others, with the two roof sections forming a "V" where they meet. These steps will teach you how to frame a roof valley in the same way roofers have been doing it for thousands of years. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Locate the area where one roof meets the other. Valleys are the inward angle of two sloping roof sections and must be framed before other areas of the roof. The frame will hold the flashing in place.
-
2
Snap your chalk line string beginning at the ridge point and proceeding down to the intersection of the wall and the roof. Lay the framing boards in line with the chalk line. Steel roofs require the same type of valley formation as shingle roofs.

3
Cut two framing boards the same length as the valley chalk lines. They must have 45-degree angles at each end. This allows you to attach the framing boards in the appropriate place and put the rest of the materials on the framing boards as needed.
-
4
Lay the framing boards at the angle made where the two roof pieces meet, one on each side of the chalk line. The 45-degree angles should be a mirror image of each other.
-
5
Assure that rainwater will wash down the roofing valley by installing an appropriate steel or plastic drain spout as needed.
