Weed Eaters are a clean and efficient way to get rid of weeds along the edge of the property that are difficult to cut with a lawnmower. The Weed Eater's filament slices smoothly through weeds and tall grasses. Starting a Weed Eater can be a bit tricky, but follow these simple directions and get started.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Prime the engine to get the fuel mixture into the engine. Press down on the rubber, nipple-like bulb on the Weed Eater. Press the bulb four or five times to guarantee an adequate supply of fuel to start the engine.

  2. Step 2

Push down the choke lever. The choke should be open as far as possible and can be adjusted once the engine starts.

  3. Step 3

Grasp the start knob firmly. A good tight grip is essential. Be sure the Weed Eater is more than 2 feet away from any objects to prevent accidents when pulling the cord.

  4. Step 4

Pull the cord numerous times. The first pull may not be enough to start the engine. Pull as many as five or six times before resting.

  5. Step 5

Pick up the Weed Eater with both hands and put one hand on the trigger. Hold the unit away from the body and clear of obstructions. The trigger speeds up or slows down the Weed Eater depending on the amount of gas delivered.

  6. Step 6

Turn off the engine using the button near the trigger. The Weed Eater will take a few seconds to completely stop after the trigger is released.
