Step 1
Determine which type of gas to use. Some lawn mowers use regular unleaded gas just like in cars, and some use a mixture of gas and oil. Be sure to use the correct kind of gas for your mower so you don't destroy your engine.
-
Step 2
Locate the gas tank on the lawn mower's engine. The gas caps are typically easy to find because they need to be accessed often.
-
Step 3
Unscrew the cap to the gas tank.
-
Step 4
Peek inside the gas tank to see how much gas you will need to add to the lawn mower. If you're having trouble seeing inside the tank, use a flashlight to shine inside and the light should reflect off of the gas inside the tank.
-
Step 5
Pour the appropriate type of gas into the lawn mower's tank until full. Try not to overfill the tank, which can cause some of the gas to spill over. If gas spills over, wipe it clean as best as you can. When the engine is running, you may notice a distinct odor of gas because of the spill.

Step 6
Replace the cap on the gas tank of the lawn mower and start your engines.
