Headlights and tail lights are parts of your vehicle that must be in proper working order. They improve your safety by helping you see and be seen by other drivers. They also help you avoid road hazards. Save money and time by changing the bulbs yourself instead of taking your car to a mechanic.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Open the hood of your car and locate the damaged light bulb inside the headlamp. Pull the socket out of the headlight casing to expose the bulb.

  2. Step 2

Access the tail light through the back end or the trunk of your car. You can expose the light bulb when you loosen the screw on the outside of the tail light casing.

  3. Step 3

Pull the damaged light bulb out of its socket and replace it with the new bulb. Push the bulb into place until you hear it snap.

  4. Step 4

Replace the socket inside the headlight or tail light casing. Test your headlights to make sure you installed the bulb correctly. Get a friend to stand behind your vehicle to help you test the tail light.

Tips & Warnings
  • Refer to your vehicle's owner's manual for the correct replacement bulb for your headlamp. The bulbs are available in your local auto parts store, and you can order them by specific number.
