If you've already completed the body of the bee and cut out the parts in "Make a Bee From a Clothes Hanger, Part I," you're ready to begin the next step. This part of the construction helps the child to match patterns and identify shapes. The children learn these lessons with a great deal of fun as they construct a bumble bee from a clothes hanger.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Body and parts of the bee created in Part 1
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

Lay out all the parts. Put the hook part at the top and lay the three stripes in a vertical pattern across the body. Put the wings at the top, a pair of feet under each stripe, the stinger on the back and antennae at the top of the head.

  2. Step 2

Arrange the facial features on the head. Put the white circles down first and place the smaller black pupils inside. There is no right or wrong way to place the pupils onto the face. The child can make the bee look straight forward, cross-eyed or to the side. Lay the nose and mouth onto the face.

  3. Step 3

Set the body aside and begin to glue the features to the face. Glue the antennae to the top of the head. When you glue these on, you just need a little dot of glue. Continue using small dots of glue on the other facial features.

  4. Step 4

Put thin stripes of glue along the body of the bee for the stripes. You may want to apply the glue for the children. Have the child hold each strip down until the mental count of ten. If the strips are too long, trim them to fit the body once they're all in place.

  5. Step 5

Lift the wings and apply glue in a circle onto the body where you want to place them. Hold each wing down to the count of ten to make certain that it is firmly in place.

  6. Step 6

Make a circle of glue for the head and hold in place until you are certain that it's firm. Again, use the silent count to ten as you hold the head in place.

  7. Step 7

Dab glue on the end of the bee to place the stinger. Put glue at the top of the legs and glue it to the underside of the bee.
