Step 1
Concentrate on your left arm as you take a few practice swings. A common problem, especially for novice golfers, is a bent left elbow, called "the chicken wing." To help you focus on the proper technique, imagine that your left arm is in a cast and you can't bend it at all.

Step 2
Practice hitting balls on the practice tee while fully extending your left arm all the way through the shots. Take short swings at first and keep the back of your left hand aimed at your target. Fully extend your left arm through the swing as if you are going to point at your target with the club.

Step 3
Take your right hand off the club as you swing and hit balls using only your left arm and hand on impact. The weight and momentum of the club will help you keep your left arm straight as you swing through the ball.

Step 4
Continue practicing until you get the feel of holding your left arm straight all the way up through the finish of your swing. Try to maintain a smooth rhythm. Mastering this technique will add distance and accuracy to your game.
