Step 1
Decide how wide you want your shelves to be. Consider the amount of space you need to park your car and store seasonal items like snow blowers. If you're particular about how things look, you can keep your shelves narrow enough to fit between the wall and garage door.
-
Step 2
Cut an oriented strand board, more commonly known as OSB, to fit your measurements. OSB is recommended over plywood because it's made for exterior use and will suffer wet conditions better than plywood.
-
Step 3
Use studs to secure one set of your frames to the garage wall.
-
Step 4
Set the second frame in place in preparation to install the seat board.
-
Step 5
Slide the seat board down the outside set of frames and allow it to land on the 2 by 4 that will provide it's support.
-
Step 6
Let the seat board to fall toward the garage wall. It will slip into place, naturally catching on the other supporting 2 by 4. Adjust the shelves until you reach the appropriate spot and the seat board fits properly.
-
Step 7
Secure the seat frame into place and continue until your shelving unit is complete.
