Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fishing fly
  • Thread
  • Whip finishing tool
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

Pull the thread so it is tight. Place the hook of the tool in front of the thread. Hook the tool onto the thread.

  2. Step 2

Hold the finishing tool with your thumb and forefinger. Pull the thread behind the tool, and then bring the thread under and up to the front of the whip finisher. Lead the thread into the indention on the tool.

  3. Step 3

Let go of the top of the tool, and allow the finisher to flip 180 degrees. The thread forms a triangle--the top being at the fly. Continue to keep the thread tight.

  4. Step 4

Wrap the thread around the fly by turning the tool from the handle around the fly. Wrap the fly between four and six times.

  5. Step 5

Raise the handle of the hook counter clockwise. Slide the thread off of the indented part of the whip finishing tool.

  6. Step 6

Tighten the knot by pulling on the bobbin. Keep the thread tight, and slip the thread off the hook. Pull the thread to tighten the knot, and clip the string.
