A Floyd Rose tremolo is also known as a whammy bar. It is a floating system that's anchored to the guitar by two posts. If you turn a guitar over that has the Floyd Rose tremolo attached, you can see the plate that covered where the strings are anchored. Many metal guitarists prefer the Floyd Rose tremolo. Read on to learn how to play a Floyd Rose tremolo.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Pull up the bar on the Floyd Rose tremolo. You will find that this raises the pitch of the strings.

  2. Step 2

Push the bar of the Floyd Rose tremolo down. This lowers the pitch of the guitar strings.

  3. Step 3

Use the Floyd Rose tremolo to "bend" full chords. By doing this, you play a chord and then change it into something new. You can do this by moving the bar either up or down. You can even move the bar up and down rapidly, creating a trembling effect with the chord.

  4. Step 4

Experiment with the different effects the Floyd Rose tremolo can make. Guitar players often use the tremolo when they're playing a solo, for it can help add color and effect to their song.
