How to Paint a Butterfly

Butterflies are beautiful animals. When people paint butterflies, they can be very colorful and creative, especially if the butterfly is painted on the face. Here are a few steps on how to face paint a butterfly.

1. Outline the butterfly on the face. Draw the top wings up around the eyes and the bottom wings down onto the cheek. It is best to use black acrylic paint to draw the butterfly outline.

2. Color the wings in the base color of your choice. Most butterflies will have a white or black base color. However, you can use any base color. Cover the eyebrows as you paint the upper wings. You may want to use a larger brush to fill in the colors. Make sure your model does not squint as you paint.

3. Paint circles, lines and other designs in the wings. Be creative. However, do not over do it. Too many decorations will make the butterfly look fake and it will not be as pretty. Outline each design with a black or white outline to bring out the colors.

4. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly before the model moves. Make sure the paint will not run and check for any parts of the butterfly that need a touch up.

5. Clean your paint brush after each color. Use water to clean your brush and make sure you completely dry it before you apply a different color. Never let your paint brush sit in water.
