Instructions

    • 1

Choose a light color of shadow as the foundation and at least three darker shades for the actual goth look. Remember that dressing up goth is based around black so make sure your darkest color is pure black. Other dark colors you might consider are greens, reds, blues and grays.

    • 2

Brush a light-colored eyeshadow evenly onto the lid, as the base of your goth look. For cool skin tones use a slightly gray or blue base and for warm skin tones use a light beige. It is important that this color blends well with the skin tone and is not too dark as it is just meant to be the foundation for your real goth eyeshadow. Apply the base to all parts of the eyelid, from corner to corner and lid to eyebrow.

    • 3

Apply your second color which will be the undertone of your eyeshadow. Apply the color from lid to eyebrow and corner to corner, shaping the eye as you would like it to look. Use your eyeshadow brush to apply the third color, this time applying slowly and blending as well as possible. Only apply the second color up to a few centimeters below the eyebrow.

    • 4

Finish your goth eyeshadow with black. Begin at the eyelid and slowly work your way up as you can quickly overdo the black. Blend the black into the other colors only working up to the fold of the eye. You have now mastered the most important element when dressing goth.

This article doesn't mention contouring, which is very important, whether you're gothic or not. If you follow those directions exactly, you're just going to have caked on layers of several eyeshadows. Start with an actual eyeshadow primer. Several are on the market. Then, put the lightest color shadow on as your browbone highlight; apply under eyebrow and almost down to crease. Apply medium shade over lid and in crease. Now take the black shadow and apply in outer half of crease and outer quarter of lid, then take a fluffy brush and blend so there are no harsh lines between colors anywhere. After the shadow, apply your eyeliner, mascara, and brow pencil.
