Bathing your pet is a part of standard care, but doing it properly takes learning the technique. Many canines love soaping up but are ready to run out of the bathtub before the bath is over. A soapy coat isn't a clean coat; you must thoroughly rinse your dog or the entire bath is a waste of time. Read on to learn how to rinse your dog.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Get a helper to stand by who is ready to restrain the dog if necessary. Even a cooperative canine can suddenly change his mind about this grooming procedure and leap from the tub. Having an assistant nearby can prevent a mess.
Step2
Test the water temperature. Dogs like comfortably warm showers, just like people do. Make certain the water isn't excessively hot or cold and then turn on the sprayer.
Step3
Adjust the water to a medium spray. Too fine a spray won't reach the undercoat, too harsh will cause the animal discomfort. Spray water through the sprayer hose near—but not on—the dog. Allow her time to acclimate to the sound before lightly spraying her back. If she's receptive and unafraid, continue to Step 4. If she's frightened, continue spraying her back for a few minutes to calm her.
Step4
Begin spraying the top of the dog's head. Take care to avoid running soapy water into the eyes. Lightly but thoroughly rub the coat to help ease the soap into the spray. Work your way down the head and onto the neck, remembering to rinse the underside as you go.
Step5
Rinse the neck thoroughly, working from top to bottom. Move to the dog's back, rinsing with the grain of his coat and allowing the soap to fall down his sides. When the back rinses clean, move to the dog's chest and front legs. Continue working from the top down.
Step6
Move to the dog's sides. Rinse them clean and then rinse the underbelly. If the animal is male, be certain that the sheath is completely soap-free. Continue to the tail, remembering to lift it to rinse the underside and anus. When the tail is clean, rinse the hind legs from top to bottom.
Step7
Finish by rinsing the tub until it is free of soap. Then lift each paw and rinse the pads thoroughly to get rid of soap remnants. This is one of the basic steps that people often forget. Soap trapped between the pads is an irritant to the animal. Allow the dog to drip for a minute or two and dry him with a clean towel.
