Step 1
Buy a specially designed bar that attaches to the window frame to prevent the door from opening. Look for one that applies pressure to the door midway up the frame to prevent a burglar from picking your lock and walking in.
-
Step 2
Install a sliding door lock on the door that is stationary, and adjust it to allow the sliding door to open a few inches but no more. This allows a breeze to enter the home but keeps the door from admitting a person. Additionally, this is a good lock for keeping toddlers from going outside without permission.
-
Step 3
Place self-tapping screws in the upper track of the door to keep it from lifting from its track. Install the screws with just a bit of the head sticking out to prevent the door from lifting upwards.
-
Step 4
Place security decals on the inside of your sliding glass door for added security. Even if you don't have a security system installed, the stickers may deter a would-be burglar. Alternately, a decal stating that your home is protected by a large dog can be a deterrent.
