Step 1
Select a massage tool. Selection depends primarily on what is comfortable for you to use. There are tools that fit into the palm of the hand and have knob projections, and others that fit over your fingers.
-
Step 2
Position the recipient. Have the person lie down on his or her back, with slight head support and arms at sides. The arms should be bare.
-
Step 3
Press the tool against the large muscle of the forearm, with the person's palm facing down. While maintaining steady pressure, move the tool along the length of the muscle toward the elbow.
-
Step 4
Hold the tool in place for a moment with the pressure steady at the elbow end of the muscle. Then lighten the pressure slightly, move the tool in a circular motion, and release. Repeat this stroke several times.
-
Step 5
Turn the arm so the palm faces up and apply the tool to this side of the arm. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 for the upper arm as well. Then do the same for the other arm.
-
Step 6
Extend the recipient's hand beyond the edge of the massage table or the table on which he or she is sitting, with the palm facing down. With one hand flex the wrist toward the floor, and with the other stroke the tool the length of the muscle from the elbow toward the wrist applying pressure as described in Steps 3 and 4. This will promote flexibility in the wrist.
-
Step 7
Turn the person's arm over so the palm is facing up. Gently extend the wrist so that the hand bends back toward the floor. Again draw the tool along the muscle from the elbow toward the wrist as described in Step 6. This promotes flexibility in the wrist. Repeat Steps 6 and 7 on the other arm.
