Get your groove on with the forward slide. It takes a lot of practice to make it look right, but once you've got it mastered, your friends will be dazzled by your moves. Read on to learn how to do the forward slide.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Learn how to moonwalk backwards first. It is easier and can help you with the movements of the forward slide.

  2. Step 2

Walk it forward to do the forward slide. You're using the two basic steps, shift weight and glide, as you did in the moonwalk, but this time move forward.

  3. Step 3

Bend the gliding leg's knee up, and turn the toe down across the floor for a short instant and then sweep the foot back to the sole down position to follow through in the forward step.

  4. Step 4

Bring the foot down. Shift your weight to the other leg and continue.

  5. Step 5

Lean forward. No matter which direction you are sliding, lean forward to give the effect of moving forward. This is especially exaggerated in the forward slide. Swing your arms. Mimic the motion of running.

  6. Step 6

Control your entire body, not just the legs. All of your muscles, shoulders, hips, arms, should be flexed to really perform that hip hop style of sliding. While learning, you'll be watching your legs, but once you have the step down, look straight ahead.

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice in a mirror after you get the basic moves down.
