Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Practice basic pop and lock techniques by moving your body in a fluid motion for a few seconds and then locking into a fixed position. Move your arms, legs and torso either at the same time or separately in between stiff poses.

  2. Step 2

Use the heart beat as a hallmark move of the 1980s when trying to emulate Michael Jackson. Place your right hand over your heart and stand with your feet together or in a comfortable standing position.

  3. Step 3

Push your chest in, hunching your back and turning your head down. You may also bend your knees slightly.

  4. Step 4

Push your chest out and lift your hand as if to accommodate your heart pounding out of your chest. In a single motion, bring your chest out, arch your back, raise your head, move your hand and take a step out with your right foot.

  5. Step 5

Rock back to your previous position with hand over heart and repeat to represent a pounding heart motion.

Tips & Warnings
  • The heartbeat is a hallmark move of the 1980s, and can look a little cheesy in the wrong context. Don't overuse this move. It works best when done to Michael Jackson's early hits and other 1980s songs where it doesn't seem so out-of-place.
