How to Do a Triple Stitch When Making a Scarf

A crocheted scarf with longer stitches will have a more open texture, but this doesn't mean that it won't be as warm. Warm air will get trapped in the spaces, keeping the wearer just as comfortable. The scarf will also weigh less. Read on to learn how to do a triple stitch when making a scarf.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yarn
  • Crochet hook
  • Row counter

    Method One

  1. Step 1

    Insert your hook in the first stitch of the row, yarn over and pull through the stitch. There will be two loops on your hook.

  2. Step 2

    Yarn over and pull through one loop, leaving two on your hook.

  3. Step 3

    Repeat Step 2 once more.

  4. Step 4

    Yarn over and pull through both loops on your hook to complete the triple crochet stitch.

  5. Method Two

    Yarn over twice before inserting your hook in the next stitch. Pull one loop through the stitch. There will be four loops on your hook.

  7. Step 2

    Yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook. There will be three loops on your hook.

  8. Step 3

    Repeat Step 2 twice more, until only one loop remains on your hook. This completes the triple crochet stitch.

Tips & Warnings
  • A triple crochet stitch is also known as a treble crochet.
  • To begin a row with a triple stitch, chain four and then insert your hook in the next stitch.
  • It's helpful to hold onto the triple stitch as you're making it to keep it from pulling too tight.
  • For beginners, it's best to work an entire row in one stitch. Mixing stitches in a row will result in an uneven row, which can't be worked with easily.
