Step 1
Make a slip stitch by taking the tail end of your yarn in one hand and cross it over the working yarn, making a loop. Pull the tail of the yarn through the loop until it forms a knot so you can begin to chain stitch a scarf.
-
Step 2
Slide your slip knot onto your hook. To chain stitch a scarf, create a loop, hook the yarn and pull it through. Repeat the chain stitch to make 15 stitches.
-
Step 3
Insert your hook into the second stitch of the chain stitch, pull the yarn over the front of the hook and pull the hook through the chain stitch. It will look like two loops on your hook. Pull the yarn over the front of the hook again and pull the hook completely through the chain completing a single crochet stitch.
-
Step 4
Continue making single crochet stitches using your chain stitch as a foundation. When you reach the end of the first row of stitches, "turn" your work by adding a chain stitch at the end.
-
Step 5
Crochet the next row by inserting the hook into the second chain stitch and repeat with the single crochet stitch. You will finish the scarf after making 14 single crochet stitched rows.
