Fiber art like crochet is enjoying a resurgence in popularity. Crocheting is an art form that is a cherished memory usually associated with a grandmother's blanket and craft shows. The young and old alike are returning to the skill of crochet. Read on to learn how to use the chain stitch in a spiral to reconnect with a hobby of the past.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yarn
  • Crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  1. Step 1

Start a new project by making a slip knot in your yarn. Put the crochet hook into the slip knot to begin to work a series of chain stitches. Measure the crochet chain for the correct diameter of the spiral.

  2. Step 2

Join the chain and form a ring by inserting the hook through both loops of the first stitch in the chain and making a slip stitch.

  3. Step 3

Insert your hook through the two top loops of the first stitch in the chain and work one single crochet stitch. Work one single crochet in each stitch of the rest of the chain.

  4. Step 4

Continue working one single crochet in each stitch of the previous round until your tube is the desired length. If you are ending your project with the tube spiral, finish off with a slip knot.

  5. Step 5

Cut your yarn 2 to 3 inches from the slip knot and use a yarn needle to weave the trailing end into the tube.

Tips & Warnings
  • Track the rounds you've crocheted by using a marker, such as a safety pin, attached at the start of each round. When you reach the marker, count one more completed round, and move the marker to mark the start of the new round.
