Step 1
Watch your position on your motocross bike while you're jumping. If you are too far back on the seat, you have no control while jumping. In fact, your bike could roll over backwards, causing you to tumble.
-
Step 2
Make sure you're not sitting too far forward while you are jumping your motocross bike, for you won't be able to have any control while jumping. Instead of the bike rolling backward, your too-forward weight could cause your bike to tumble forward, sending you flying over your handlebars. Without the proper weight to keep it down, the back end will bounce up too high.
-
Step 3
Try to maintain your center over the center of the bike. This allows you the best opportunity to maintain control while MX jumping your motocross bike. From the center, you will be able to adjust forward and back as needed, staying with the bike instead of throwing it off balance.
-
Step 4
Use your hips to move your weight back, if needed, to help maintain control while MX jumping your motocross bike.
-
Step 5
Examine the terrain where you are traveling. You might be able to go over a whooped out area by staying on the power with your weight slightly back. This allows your suspension to do the work, and lets you maintain the motocross bike when MX jumping.
-
Step 6
Double or triple your whoops depending on what you can manage. If you are able to, you might make one big jump, then double two jumps or three, depending on their size. Throughout, you must keep your centered position, with your weight slightly back, and let the suspension do its thing. Above all, do only what you can manage at first, for this allows you to maintain control of your motocross bike when MX jumping.
-
Step 7
Look ahead, wherever you're going, and plan your route. This is key to maintaining control when MX jumping your motocross bike.
-
Step 8
Practice MX jumping your motocross bike. Over time, you will find that you become better at jumping and maintaining control of your bike. This will allow you to pick a direction in which to go, rather than picking a line that will suit your abilities.
-
Step 9
Be cautious. Motocross is a dangerous sport. It pays to take your time learning how to jump and how to feel comfortable on your bike while jumping and maintaining control.
-
Step 10
Wear your safety gear.
