Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Measuring cup
  • Flour
  • Large bowl
  • Flat beater accessory
  • Electric stand mixer
  • Pouring shield
  • Mixer owner's manual
  • Kneading hook
  1. Step 1

Use a measuring cup to pre-measure the flour called for in your challah bread recipe. Place measured flour in a large bowl.

  2. Step 2

Lower the bowl on your electric stand mixer or lift the mixing arm of your mixer, depending on the model of stand mixer you use. Attach the flat beater accessory to your electric stand mixer.

  3. Step 3

Add 1 cup of flour to the challah ingredients in the mixing bowl. Raise the mixing bowl and turn the mixer on low. Mix the flour into the rest of the ingredients. Repeat Step 2. Completely mix the flour into the existing ingredients before adding the next cup of flour.

  4. Step 4

Prevent flour from spraying out of the mixing bowl by using a pouring shield accessory for your mixer. Use a plastic bag or a cardboard shield if you do not have a pouring shield accessory.

  5. Step 5

Read your stand mixer owner's manual to find the flour capacity of your mixer. Keep mixing cups of flour into your challah ingredients until the stand mixer no longer mixes effectively or until you reach your mixer's flour capacity. Stop adding flour even if you have not completely mixed all of the flour into the challah dough.

  6. Step 6

Clean the dough from the flat beater with a plastic spatula or a wooden spoon. Place excess dough back into the mixing bowl. Remove the flat beater accessory and replace it with a kneading hook accessory.

Tips & Warnings
  • Unplug your mixer when changing accessories to prevent injury.
