Create a unique centerpiece that people will be talking about for years to come by turning a watermelon into a fruit centerpiece. Before you begin, it's important to draw your peacock shape onto the fruit. Use these tips to draw a peacock fruit centerpiece with ease.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Watermelon
  • Black marker
  1. Step 1

Choose a small or medium round watermelon. Cut off one end of the watermelon so that the turkey will sit on the table without moving around.

  2. Step 2

Draw a half circle on one side of the top of the watermelon using a black waterproof marker.

  3. Step 3

Extend the circle so that it becomes a head shape facing to the right. Draw a straight line from the outside of the circle to the middle of the circle so that it begins to form a half circle but do not draw completely to the other side.

  4. Step 4

Draw a straight line down so that you have made a turned head, beak and inside of the neck. Go back to the top of the head and extend the outside of the head down the left side so that you form the outside of the neck. You now have the head and neck drawn.

  5. Step 5

Extend the line on the left side of the neck until you are about an inch from the bottom of the watermelon. Raise your pen line up from the base on an angle. Curve it to create a wave shape. Create a wave on the right side of the neck so that it matches the left side.

  6. Step 6

Turn the watermelon around and find the center of the melon that is directly even with the top of the head. Make an upside down angle like the tip of a triangle directly behind the head. This will be your top peak of the tail feathers.

  7. Step 7

Draw three more waves on each side of the watermelon so that all the waves join together and meet in the middle of the back. Make sure the number and placement of waves is equal on each side of the watermelon.

on 2/2/2009 What an amazing idea! This looks so much fun, I am definately going to attempt this as soon as I possibly can. I am not sure that I can do it as well as you Karen, I hope it is as easy as you make it look. I am going to wait for kiwi season so that I can make the best possible peacock.

One slight comment about the presentation at the end of the videos. I think that it would be advantagous if it was presented at the end on a nicely decorated party table. It would also be excellent to see your guests' reactions.

Have you considered making a turtle centerpeice out of zucchini? I did this last Thanksgiving and it was extremely popular with my guests.

Many thanks to you and Expert Village, I hope to see many more creations in the future.
