Customizing your acting resume is helpful for showcasing your related experience in the genre you're auditioning for or to highlight roles that are similar in depth or character. Making your custom resume requires diligent effort and some research into your potential employer and the role you seek. Read on to learn how to customize an acting resume for auditions.

Instructions

    • 1

Review and follow the steps in the eHow article "Create Your Resume for Acting Auditions."

    • 2

Classify the production you're auditioning for. The production should fall into one of the following categories: film, television, theater, commercials, music videos and industrials.

    • 3

Research the production to discover the genre of the piece. Common genres include drama, comedy, action, horror, documentary, science fiction and children's. If no information is available about the production you're auditioning for, look up the director's IMDb page or do other research to determine what type of work he has done in the past.

    • 4

Study the sides, if available, to determine the type of role you're auditioning for. Common roles include lead, supporting, featured and extra. The role type can also be classified by the character's behavior and relation to the other characters in the piece--for example, the hero, the love interest, the other man (or woman) and the villian.

    • 5

Reorder the experience you have already listed on your basic resume to highlight the roles that fit the category, genre and role type for the audition. Start with the category, then the genre, then the role, giving the first position to the most closely related work. If you are auditioning for a lead role in a dramatic film, move the entire film category to the top of the resume. Then move all dramatic roles to the top of that category. Next, from that narrowed selection, move to first position any lead roles or any roles that are similar in character to the one for which you are auditioning.

    • 6

Rearrange all other categories by following these same steps down the page, moving and ranking the roles around so the top position in each category is most closely related to the work you are seeking.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid transferring the generalizations you use when creating your resume onto your preparation with the script. Your characters don't see themselves as villains or heroes even though the audience sees otherwise.
