Step 1
Grip the bowling ball correctly. Use a two joint grip for beginners and one joint grip for the more advanced bowlers. This mean that two or one joint of the finger is inserted into each hole on the bowling ball. The two joint grip allows the bowler to have more control. Whereas the one joint grip allows for more power and spin but less control.

Step 2
Raise the bowling ball straight up towards the chin. Keep the elbows tucked as the bowler raises the ball up to the chin.

Step 3
Address the bowling lane just to the right side of bowling lane board thirty-three. Stand behind the board at a distance that allows a comfortable approach. Some bowlers do not need much room on the approach.

Step 4
Visualize a line directly from the thirty-three board and the three pin. Some bowlers have an inordinate amount of spin or action on their throws so the approach may need to factor that in.

Step 5
Approach and release the bowling at the three pin. Again, some bowlers have an inordinate amount of spin or action on their throws so the approach may need to factor that in. When releasing the bowling ball make sure to keep the elbow tucked and follow through on the toss.

Step 6
Finish the throw. A bowler must not leave the lane early or finish in an unbalanced position.
