The smith stall is one of those tricks that looks impressive but is actually pretty easy to learn. Getting it right is a matter of balancing the two surfaces of your BMX bike. Fun to watch, exciting to learn, the smith stall is a great bike trick to add to your repertoire.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Approach a bike ramp at a medium speed. The higher your speed, the more impressive this trick appears, but practice at a medium to slower speed.

  2. Step 2

Pop up into a bunny hop at the very top of the ramp, so both wheels are above the deck. The front tire should leave the surface first as it's the one that needs to land first.

  3. Step 3

Catch your front wheel peg on the deck while your back tire is still airborne.

  4. Step 4

Push your back tire over the deck, but only enough to land your back wheel on top of the deck. Do this after you've caught your front peg on the deck.

  5. Step 5

Adjust your balance by shifting your body weight over the ramp while you tip the bike over the deck in the opposite direction and stop all momentum. This completes the smith stall.

  6. Step 6

Roll out of the stall by allowing your body weight to shift over the ramp as you let the front tire follow. This way, you ride your BMX off of the ramp as normal.
