The half cab is one of the most impressive ways to get out of a fakie when performing BMX tricks. Not only is it an attention grabber, it takes your skillset to a whole new level. Essentially a small bunny hop done backwards with a 180 thrown in, the half cab is a great skill to have in your arsenal of tricks.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Begin the half cab while riding backwards. To do this trick, you should be proficient at bunny hopping, doing the 180 and riding fakie. This is a trick that's best learned at a slow rate of speed.
Step2
Set your pedals so they are in position for you to begin to ride forward, essentially with both pedals close to even. Your dominant foot may be somewhat higher than your weak foot, if you're more comfortable that way.
Step3
Stop the backward momentum of the bike by applying quick pressure to the pedal on your dominant side, but do not actually pedal the bike at this point. The bike should almost stall.
Step4
Lift the front tire only slightly off the ground at the moment the momentum stalls. Do this by applying a quick jerk to the handle bars, as you would if you were going to begin to bunny hop your bike.
Step5
Keep your body straight and do a 180 while the BMX is stalled and in a bunny hop, turning you out of your fakie and giving you forward momentum.
